Recently, Senior Vice President for Corporate Banking Tammy Hughes and Vice President and New Business Development Officer Rob Appleman were on campus to deliver this year’s installment of $100,000.

The Center for Ethics and Free Enterprise generates faculty and student research and new business courses. In addition, the lecture series has focused on core values and ethical foundations of free enterprise and issues facing business management and policy makers.

“Strategic partnerships with committed corporate and business leaders such as BB&T are critical to our ability to provide a experiential, relevant learning environment for our students,” said Dr. Kyle Marrero, president of UWG. “The programs made possible through this partnership have created opportunities for students to hear from a broad range of professional speakers with a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.”

The lecture series, which is open to the campus and to the public, presents two speakers each year. Each year, the series has been successful with as many as 425 people present from the campus and the community.

“BB&T has been a tremendous partner to the Richards College of Business,” said Dean and Sewell Chair of Private Enterprise for the Richards College of Business Dr. Faye McIntyre. “Tammy Hughes is a true partner, not just a donor. BB&T’s goal is to help our students, faculty, and staff. We are achieving so much more than we would otherwise.”

BB&T has provided much support to the university for several years. “We believe it’s very important as part of our mission statement to help our communities be better places to live,” said Tammy. “Clearly, having the University of West Georgia in the community is a benefit.”
