UGA Announces Change in Mascot to Wolves

The University of West Georgia announced today that they would be sharing their mascot Wolfie with the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia effective July 1, 2015.

UGA Announces Change in Mascot to Wolves While not unprecedented, the change in mascots came as a surprise to both UWG and UGA fans alike. In an attempt to expel the rumor that the mascot change was directly related to the Bulldogs less than stellar football performance last season in comparison to the UWG Wolves, Dr. Kip Gridiron, professor of sports management at UWG explained more about the decision.

"While Uga, the white bulldog that currently serves as UGA’s mascot is a fine pet, the flagship school of Georgia decided they need a stronger mascot to better represent the ferocity of the Georgia spirit. While it is unusual for a school to share its mascot with another school, we couldn’t help but understand UGA’s request to adopt the Wolves as their mascot," continued Gridiron. "Everyone loves a cute puppy, but it doesn’t invoke the same level of athletic respect as a wolf.”

Asked what will happen to Uga and the costumed character Hairy Dawg, Gridiron said that the UGA officials are contemplating allowing them to retire to Florida. “We know even a sweet puppy like Uga can outrun a Florida Gator.”
