The University of West Georgia officially celebrated the facility additions to east campus, including a new amphitheater, East Commons dining hall, The Oaks residence hall and the newly renovated Bowdon Hall, with a ribbon cutting on Friday, November 1, 2013. The event was held in The Oaks’ spacious second floor lobby overlooking the new facilities.

The ribbon cutting event allowed faculty, staff, community leaders and students to hear from various companies and university staff that contributed to the expansion of the university. The event speakers spoke on their specific contribution and the imagery of the University of West Georgia before and after the 19-month renovation. The event was followed by a tour of the residence halls and the East Commons dining hall.

The Oaks residence hall, with 128,783 square feet of living, meeting and warehouse space, features comfortable single and double rooms with private and semi-private bathrooms for 473 residents. There are also three two-bedroom apartments, an outdoor patio, TV lounges on each floor and accessible rooms for those with special needs.

The newly renovated Bowdon Hall offers 60,780 square feet of living, meeting and study space. There are comfortable double rooms for 276 residents with two music practice rooms and enclosed study rooms for private study time.

Both residence halls include oversized wardrobes, moveable furniture, Wi-Fi, free extended basic cable service, Ethernet ports in resident’s rooms, convenient laundry and access to the new East Commons dining hall and amphitheater.
