The University of West Georgia is preparing for Suicide Prevention Week starting September 9 - 14. The events during the week include a variety of activities designed to provide information and facts to UWG students on ways to prevent suicide and how to positively handle it and help those in need.

The University of West Georgia is preparing for Suicide Prevention Week starting September 9 - 14. According to the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, “data from several sources indicate that a significant number of students on campuses across the country experience mental health problems, and approximately 1,100 students die by suicide each year.” The center also notes that “many students who experience mental health problems or are suicidal are not receiving help.”

The goal of all Suicide Prevention Week events is to increase awareness of mental health issues that college students face, increase help—seeking for mental health concerns, and educate the campus on the warning signs of suicide and effective ways to help individuals in psychological distress.
