by Nikole Gianopoulos

UWG Among Most Promising Places to Work in America The University of West Georgia was recently named one of the top 15 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs by the Center for Higher Education Enterprise (CHEE) in partnership with Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). Schools were chosen based on workplace diversity, staffing practices, and work environment at colleges and universities throughout the country. This list included schools such as Florida State University, University of Alabama, Youngstown State University, Sweet Briar College, and Ohio State University. The list was published February 26, 2015, in Diverse Magazine. A full list can be found at www.diverseeducation.com.

“We have been working very hard at creating an engaged workplace so we can fulfill our part of the university's vision to be a best place to work, learn, and succeed,” said Dr. Scot Lingrell, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at UWG. “This award recognizes that the actions we are taking are making a difference.”

The Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs national study was a collaborative project between Diverse Magazine and the ACPA. The study was conducted by the CHEE under the leadership of Dr. Terrell L. Strayhorn, professor and director, who served as ACPA director of research and scholarship from 2009 to 2012. The CHEE research team used a web-based survey approach to examine categories such as family friendliness, salary/benefits, and professional development opportunities.

“We are honored that the Center for Higher Education Excellence, the American College Personnel Association, and Diverse Magazine have placed Student Affairs and Enrollment Management in the top 15 in the nation,” Dr. Lingrell added. “This reflects the great work that our staff and leaders do every day in support of student success.”
