UWG Announces 2014 Football Schedule

The Will Hall Era of UWG Wolves football is set to begin September 6 within the familiar surroundings of University Stadium at Ra-Lin Field. The University of West Georgia announced Tuesday its tentative 2014 football schedule. UWG's slate includes 11 games, all against NCAA Division II competition, and features six home games.

UWG Announces 2014 Football Schedule"First, I want to give (athletic director) Daryl Dickey all the credit in the world," says Will. "Coach Dickey has done a phenomenal job getting us 11 Division II football games, and we're fortunate to have six of them in the best Division II stadium in the country."

The new campaign begins with four non-conference contests. The opener is set for September 6 when the Mars Hill Lions visit Carrollton. A week later, UWG travels to Fairfield, Alabama, to continue its rivalry with the Miles Golden Bears.

"Mars Hill has been a year in-and-year out playoff contender," says Will, adding, "and Miles has been a playoff contender every year since Coach (Reginald) Ruffin and that staff has been there."

Following those first two challenges, UWG returns home on September 20 for the school's first ever meeting with the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Wolves will next close their non-GSC portion of the schedule with a short trip to visit the Panthers of Clark Atlanta.

As October arrives, so does play in the rugged Gulf South Conference. Will says, "The GSC is always going to be tremendously competitive. North Alabama and West Alabama off co-championship seasons, Delta State was in it last year right up until the end, and Valdosta State is only a couple of years removed from a national championship."

UWG's league slate begins with an October 4 visit from Hall's former team, West Alabama. On October 11, the Wolves head south to visit Valdosta State in the battle for the Peach Basket, and a week later Delta State makes a second straight trip to Carrollton. The month concludes on October 25, UWG heads to Florence as Will leads the Wolves against his alma mater, North Alabama.

November finds UWG home for the two weekends of the month in their final two home games of the regular season. November 1 brings GSC newcomer Mississippi College to Carrollton for the first time since 1995, and on November 8 the Wolves will entertain Florida Tech. The regular season concludes on November 15, in Rome, vs. Shorter.

All dates on UWG's 2014 are still subject to change, pending release of the GSC-TV Live schedule this spring. Also, kickoff times will be announced later this year.
