Cheer Alumni Establish Memorial Fund

Cheer Alumni Establish Memorial FundThe University of West Georgia is a dynasty in the world of cheerleading. In 1997, the university experienced an enormous tragedy with the loss of three members of the cheerleading squad, including the head coach and two cheerleaders. Since that tragedy, UWG Cheerleading rose to one of the most dominant forces in the history of collegiate cheerleading competition, with 18 UCA championships since 2002.

UWG Cheer alumni, in conjunction with head coach Nicole Nichols, are now looking to pay homage to those who lost their lives in that tragic accident. A Cheerleading Memorial Fund has been established, with a goal to raise $10,000 by October 1, 2015. The funds will be used to place a bench and memorial plaque at Wolf Plaza to honor those who lost their lives in this tragedy. The additional funds will help provide much needed support for the cheer program as they continue to represent the university in a positive way, on the sidelines and in the classroom.

As of July 14, $1,175.00 has been raised.

Please consider helping the UWG Cheerleading program reach their goal by making a gift today! To make a donation to this cause, visit this website. For more information, contact Matthew Clay at mclay@westga.edu or at 678-839-1877.
