by Matt Cooke

Valentine's Day is just over a week away, and the University of West Georgia department of athletics wants to show love and support to children of the western Georgia area in a unique way with the first annual Bear Toss at this weekend's basketball games.

UWG Athletics Announces First Annual Bear Toss The Bear Toss provides an opportunity for Wolves fans to be a part of Wolves Helping Others. At halftime of all four basketball games at The Coliseum this weekend, the department will make the call for fans to heave stuffed teddy bears to the floor.

"We are so very excited about this new opportunity," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Eddie Duffey. "Our fan base has been so supportive of our philanthropic endeavors this year and our department has a heart for the young people of our area."

The department hosted a very successful pair of drives over the holiday season in November and December with a canned food and toy drive, providing food and toys to many of those in need during the holidays. With this week's Bear Toss, the department will gather up the stuffed bears and work with organizations in the western Georgia area that specialize in helping children to distribute those bears.

There will be four opportunities for fans enjoy their Bear Toss to The Coliseum floor, beginning with halftime of the women's game against Delta State Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. The men will play Delta State immediately following that game. Both teams will play again on Saturday against Christian Brothers, with the women's game at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
