Vote Today for UWG Finalist in Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Contest

by Raven Mackey

Since 1970, Atlanta has been hosting the Peachtree Road Race and has since introduced a T-shirt design contest offering students, amateur designers, and professional designers a chance to have their graphic designs seen by thousands of people at the annual race. For the past seven years in a row, University of West Georgia students have been selected as finalists in the contest. In 2013, four of the five contestants were UWG students – including the winner.

Vote Today for UWG Finalist in Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Contest Now, following in the steps of her predecessors, Cathryn Bozone has also been named as a finalist for this year’s contest. Cathryn is a senior majoring in art with a concentration in graphic design.

Cathryn submitted her design for her “Digital Media for the Artist” class taught by Associate Professor Clint Samples, who said he is extremely proud of Cathryn and her hard work.

“Cathryn is a very talented student, and she is well deserving of the honor,” Clint said. “She worked very hard on her designs and at one point, I think she had 54 variations of her design that she showed in the final critique. That says a lot about her drive and dedication to the project. I'm very proud of her and what she's accomplished.”

Cathryn’s design is currently competing against four other T-shirt designs. Though Cathryn never expected to be in the top five designers, she says she is very excited.

“I would freak out a little bit [if I won], and the money would go towards a summer trip to San Francisco,” Cathryn said.

If Cathryn’s design wins, she will be rewarded $1,000 and have her design printed on the 60,000 T-shirts that will be given to the Peachtree Road Race finishers the day of the race – July 4.

In order to win, Cathryn needs the community’s help. Please go to www.ajc.com/2015-ajc-peachtree-tshirt/#__federated=1 and help this young wolf achieve her dreams. The contest will be open until April 15, and designs can be voted on once a day.
