UWG, Southwire Host Hank Williams Event at CCAC

UWG, Southwire Host Hank Williams Event at CCAC Join Southwire and the University of West Georgia College of Arts and Humanities and School of the Arts on Friday, September 11, at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center for a special collaborative event dubbed “The Life and Music of Hank Williams,” honoring the Country Music Hall of Famer.

The CCAC will host the co-editors of “The Hanks Williams Reader” for an evening of readings and songs celebrating the life and music of the country music legend. The program will be led by University of West Georgia historian Dr. Steve Goodson, along with Dr. Pat Huber of the University of Missouri-Rolla and Dr. David Anderson of Louisiana Tech. Daniel Williams (no relation to Hank Williams) will provide live music throughout the evening. There will be a book signing after the event in the CCAC lobby courtesy of Underground Books.

The event will offer a multifaceted portrait of the renowned singer and songwriter. Though Williams passed away more than 60 years ago at the age of 29, his influence continues to be heard in contemporary music of all genres. “The Hank Williams Reader,” co-edited by Drs. Goodson, Huber, and Anderson, is a first-of-its-kind compilation of the best writing that has appeared about Williams over the past six decades and includes newspaper and magazine articles, interviews, memoirs by family and band members, assessments by critics and historians, sensational tabloid stories, and fictional treatments of the ill-fated country music superstar. In addition to selected highlights from the “Reader” and live performances of his classic songs, the program will include original recordings by and video footage of Williams.

“The Life and Music of Hank Williams” will take place at the CCAC at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but tickets must be obtained to ensure seating. For tickets, contact the CCAC at 770-838-1083 or 251 Alabama St. Please call 678-839-6042 or e-mail hgoodson@westga.edu for more information.
