The University of West Georgia placed 13th in the nation for online graduate education in reading instruction according to the 2015 ranking of online programs by TheBestSchools.org. The placement is based on factors such as academic excellence, course offerings, faculty strengths, and reputation, including reputation for online degree programs.

Site Ranks Online Graduate Reading Instruction Program Top 13 in Nation “The College of Education is very pleased with our national ranking, which compares us against thousands of programs across the country,” said Dean of the College of Education Dr. Dianne Hoff. “This ranking clearly reflects our commitment to offering high-quality, online programs that are rigorous, contemporary, and relevant.”

The wholly online program is administered by the Department of Learning and Teaching and consists of 30 hours of coursework with at least 15 hours earned in the area of language and literacy education. Required courses focus on research-based, effective instruction, critical literacy, literacy supported through technology, teacher as leader, culture and literature, second language learning, and reading and writing assessment and instruction integrated in content-area studies.

This is the second time in recent months that UWG’s online graduate education programs have received national accolades. In January, U.S. News & World Report placed UWG as 75th in the nation based on factors such as accreditation, admissions selectivity, and academic and career support services offered to students.

“Online education is fantastic for students because it is focused and flexible, and it draws students to UWG from around the world,” Dr. Hoff concluded.
