UWG Hosts Annual LSAMP Symposium

UWG Hosts Annual LSAMP SymposiumThis Spring, the University of West Georgia hosted the Annual Georgia–Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation. GA-AL LSAMP is funded by the National Science Foundation to mentor under-represented minorities into STEM disciplines. Over 100 undergraduate students from nine alliance partner institutions participated in this symposium and presented their research work.

“I am delighted to see the high quality research presented by the undergraduate students,” said Dr. S. Swamy Mruthinti, associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics and the campus coordinator of LSAMP, who organized this symposium.

In a written welcome note to the participants, UWG president Kyle Marrero reiterated the school’s commitment to student success.

“At the University of West Georgia, we are focused on the continued development and success of our students, faculty, and staff,” Dr. Marrero wrote. “We believe that scholarly engagement and collaboration are at the core of academic achievement and success. The areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as a focus of the alliance and this symposium, will serve to heighten these experiences.”
