Ashley Rizzo, a junior pre-pharmacy major at UWG certainly seems to know the meaning of volunteerism and service to others. Ashley was recently named the recipient of the Carrollton Evening Sertoma Outstanding Service Award.

Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Sertoma is a 501(c)(4) not-for-profit international organization dedicated to SERvice TO MAnkind. With over 20,000 members in more than 650 clubs across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, Sertoma Clubs yearly raise more than $20 million for local community service projects. Through these projects, the clubs return those funds to their respective communities.

As president of the American Chemistry Club during the 2013-14 academic year, Ashley was instrumental in reviving the club. She organized ACS members for volunteering opportunities in the Carrollton community, resulting in 120 hours of club service to both the Carrollton Empty Stocking Fund and the Carroll County Emergency Shelter.

Additionally, she helped to organize educational outreach projects, schedule professional speakers for monthly club meetings, produced club newsletters and organized social gatherings. And she did all this while still maintaining a 4.0 GPA at UWG.
