Psychology Department Will Host Lecture, “Inside the Government Psychic Spying Program, Stargate, and the Model of Precognition” with Dr. Edwin May

On Thursday, November 5, the University of West Georgia psychology department will be hosting an annual event, The Bill Roll Lecture, in honor of the late Dr. William Roll and his contributions to parapsychological research. This year Dr. Edwin May will be here to discuss his work with the psychic spy program, funded by the U.S. Government for over 20 years, commonly known as “Stargate.”

Psychology Department Will Host Lecture, “Inside the Government Psychic Spying Program, Stargate, and the Model of Precognition” with Dr. Edwin MayDr. May will be discussing topics such as the history of the program, how the psychic spies seemed to provide accurate information, his ideas about how precognition could work, and examples of recently declassified information from the United States intelligence community.

Dr. May began his research career in physics, earning his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. He published 16 peer-reviewed physics literature papers, including his report of the first measurement of the singlet state of the deuteron.

He left that part of his career in 1975 with an interest in parapsychological research. Dr. May joined the ongoing U.S. Government sponsored work at SRI, becoming the director of the program in 1985. In 1991 Dr. May began working with another U.S. Defense contractor, the Science Applications International Corporation.

The research conducted in this area was declassified in 1989, allowing Dr. May to publish groundbreaking results in peer-reviewed literature. He has given presentations at Harvard University, UCLA, and Stanford, just to name a few, and his findings have been widely accepted worldwide. The CIA closed down the government-sponsored parapsychology research program in 1995.

The event will be held in TLC 1305, with a reception in the foyer beginning at 6 p.m. with the lecture following at 7. Also attending will be special guest Joe McMoneagle, who worked alongside Dr. May as a psychic spy.

Attendance is free and open to the public. Attendees are also encouraged to visit the Bill Roll Exhibit in the Ingram Library, titled “Bill Roll: Contributions to Parapsychology.” The exhibit will run in the Thomas B. Murphy Reading Room (ground floor) until January 8, 2016.
