UTV13 Revitalizes Spring Programming

by Shay Carr

UTV13 staff is set to update its already-successful programming with new shows and segments for this spring’s lineup. News Director and senior Darryl Forges will host many of the shows for the upcoming semester. UTV13, which stands for University Television, is produced by University of West Georgia students. The station provides residents in many Carroll county cities with 24-hour programming.

UTV13 Revitalizes Spring Programming“We provide a lot of great opportunities for students on this campus,” Darryl says. The station already boasts interviews from Dr. Kyle Marrero, the university’s president, and Dr. Michael Greene, former CEO of the Grammys.

The station is excited to bring back past shows as well as new shows. UTV13 news is the station’s premier show, and will be back this spring. “This is a 30-minute, student run newscast that gives you the latest news, weather, daily tips and sports out of UWG and the West Georgia region,” explains Darryl. UTV13 is also bringing back “The Conversation,” which will be hosted by Darryl. This show is a platform for student organizations to showcase their talents and inform the community of upcoming events.

“The Artist” is a brand new show that will be hosted by senior Garrett Bell. “This is a show dedicated to giving recognition to students who have a creative side and want to express themselves though song, poetry and art,” explains Darryl. The show is a spinoff of the former show “Free Verse.” All students are invited to participate and show off their talents to an audience of over 35,000 viewers. Another new segment, “Tech Check,” will also air this spring on UTV13 news. It will feature information on new technology that might be helpful to students.

While the shows are interesting enough on their own, they will also feature some news-worthy people. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland, Senator Mike Dugan and financial advisor Clark Howard will all appear on UTV13 this spring. Students can get involved with UTV13 by visiting the station in the education building and signing up on the volunteer list at the front desk. “Our initiatives for this year are to provide more programming out to students and also get the community involved more with UTV13 and the university,” Darryl concludes.
