Psychology: Consciousness and Society, by Nick Atlas

Psychology: Consciousness and SocietyUpon graduating from Emory University in 2002 with a BA in Sociology and a passion for photography, I set out to find my place in the world. After nearly ten years of continuous travel, I’d come to understand that “home” is in one’s heart and that it’s exceptionally difficult to earn a living as an artist!

Still, the urge to create and express myself in unique ways impels everything that I do. It’s for this reason that I consider the doctoral program in Consciousness and Society through the Department of Psychology at West Georgia to be one of the most exciting opportunities in academia. The department’s holistic approach to learning has allowed me to integrate my diverse life experiences into my research. In short, I feel free to think for myself, to blaze my own trail, and am persistently challenged to evolve both personally and professionally.

As a scholar of yoga and dream studies—two fields that one is hard-pressed to find at the doctoral level anywhere on the planet—I feel so fortunate to have found a home in Melson Hall (though we could use some new couches). I am forever grateful to the university, indebted to my professors, and thankful for the inspiration and humor of my classmates.
