The Citizen of the Year Award, sponsored by the Kiwanis clubs in Coweta, recognizes an individual with outstanding leadership and citizenship within the community who has demonstrated exemplary vision, civic pride, and a strong commitment to a better Coweta.

In 2014, Bob and his wife Millie Coggin made a donation the University of West Georgia Foundation to provide financial support for UWG Newnan facility enhancements. The Shell-Coggin Tutor-Writing Center was named in recognition of their donation.

A community servant, Bob’s impact on the city of Newnan spans several years. Bob is on the University of West Georgia Foundation Board of Trustees and chaired the UWG Newnan Building Fund campaign. He also serves on the UWG Newnan Advisory Board. In addition to his UWG Newnan involvement, he has served on the Newnan City Council, the Newnan-Coweta Boys and Girls Club, the Coweta Samaritan Clinic, and the Flint River Council of Boy Scouts of America.

A Newnan Times-Herald article highlighting Bob’s achievement read, “This is one of the most prestigious awards in our community,” said Nancy Walden with the Newnan Kiwanis Club, who served as the emcee. “All of the nominees are very concerned with their community; motivating and inspiring and volunteering unselfishly with their time to help the people in the community, all of them making a significant difference.”

Supporters like Bob have had a tremendous impact in the growth of UWG Newnan. In 2015, there was a 61 percent increase in the number of students enrolled for fall semester courses at the vibrant new UWG location. For more information on giving to UWG Newnan, visit www.westga.edu/newnan.
