Main Street Newnan has released the 2013 Christmas Ornament featuring the historic Newnan Hospital, which is being renovated to become the new UWG Newnan Center.
The ornament is meant to commemorate the legacy of the old Newnan Hospital while also celebrating the city’s new addition as the property is being repurposed to house and educate future students. The front of the ornament portrays the façade of the Newnan Hospital and the back of the ornament describes the history of Newnan Hospital and its transition to the UWG Newnan Center.
“This year’s ornament is especially significant, as it celebrates a beloved landmark that has served our community for decades, and will continue to do so for several more to come,” says Courtney Collins, Main Street manager. “The 2013 Christmas ornament is a testament to the year that the Old Newnan Hospital found a new community use.”
The Newnan Hospital is a staple in the community. Many Newnan residents were born there, as well as their children and grandchildren. The reuse of the property provides endless opportunities for future generations while at the same time preserving the original building and its history.
"I was thrilled to learn that this year's Main Street ornament would be our beloved Newnan Hospital,” says Cathy Wright, director of UWG Newnan. “What a great way to say 'goodbye' to the old hospital and 'hello' to a new chapter in its history, the University of West Georgia-Newnan. I love the inscription on the back side of the ornament." The UWG Newnan Center is set to open at its new location in January 2015.
The ornament, individually priced at $12, is available for purchase in downtown Newnan locations including Bell’s Handcrafts, Ace Beer Growlers, Squiggly Doodles, Grannie Fannies, Vinyl Chatter, Stairway Antiques, R. DuBose Jewelers, Blue Moon Boutique, The Design House, C.S. Toggery, Encore Décor, Gillyweed, The Corner Arts Gallery, Morgan Jewelers and the Business Development/Main Street Office.
