by Kendall Poltzer

UWG Newnan Earns Chamber AwardUniversity of West Georgia Newnan was recently named the 2015 Prosperity Award recipient by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce for its outstanding impact on economic growth and development in the county. UWG Newnan has been in operation since 1988 and has seen its undergraduate enrollment quadruple in the past 10 years, with Coweta County students making up 40 percent of enrollment.

“This award is evidence of the cultural and economic impact we have not only on the community, but also the entire city,” said Bob Heaberlin, senior director and chief administrative officer of off-campus programs. “We provide an opportunity for our transient students to get a quality education, and having this award makes us proud that we are being noticed for those efforts. Receiving the Prosperity Award demonstrates the investment UWG Newnan has made in Coweta County’s future.”

UWG Newnan was selected for the Prosperity Award not only for the impact it has had on local economic growth for the 2015 year, but also for the impact it will have in years to come. It supports Newnan’s local economy and development of surrounding areas, offering day and evening core classes as well as the ACCEL program, which allows high-performing high school students to complete college credits while still in high school.
