Enactus Team Wins at Regional Competition

The University of West Georgia’s Enactus team shined at Atlanta’s regional competition this spring. The undergraduate business students won the title of first runner-up, beating all but one other team. The national office for Enactus also recognized the UWG team in the prestigious “4.0 Club,” an honor awarded to teams with excellent advisors, students and community support. The Enactus team was also recently recognized by UWG for their “Outstanding Community Service” at the annual Activities Awards Ceremony.

The team managed to gain experiences even more valuable than the awards. During the career fair, several students received onsite interviews with companies such as Sam’s Club and AFLAC. Home Depot was so impressed by the competition presentation that they invited and chauffeured Brittany Thompson, president of the UWG Enactus team, to the home office for a tour and special dinner with executives.

"Attending the Regional Competition allowed us to present our projects in front of many top leaders in esteemed organizations,” Brittany explains. “This led to many job and networking opportunities for our members. It was amazing knowing that all of our hard work paid off."

“I was overwhelmed with not only other students’ presentations, but by the amount of representatives that came out to speak with us on behalf of their company,” says Christyn Ramsey, UWG student and competition coordinator. “Seeing the passion of everyone in attendance inspired me to continue being a proud member of Enactus.”

UWG Senior students Alicia Shelton and Gabrielle Sellers received onsite interviews with Sam’s Club for full-time positions, and Jeanace Walker, a junior at UWG, received a summer internship from Sam’s Club. Gabrielle also received a summer internship opportunity with Soaring Eagles, Inc.

"What a great experience for our business students,” states Monica Smith, UWG Enactus advisor. “I am very proud of the way they prepared for the competition, conducted themselves and represented the Richards College of Business and the University of West Georgia."

Enactus unites leaders in the business and academic communities to create a better, more sustainable future through entrepreneurial action. At competitions, teams give presentations about the outreach work they have done in their communities. Business leaders judge and rank the participants, with the winners ascending to national and international competitions. The U.S. national competition will be held May 21 to 23 in Kansas City, Missouri.
