Richards College of Business Dean Nominated for Two Leadership Awards

by Rebecca Hightower

The University of West Georgia is proud to announce that Dean of the Richards College of Business and Sewell Chair of Private Enterprise Dr. Faye McIntyre is among the finalists for both the Turknett Leadership Character Award and the Oxford Center Academic Leadership for Entrepreneurs Award. Both awards seek to recognize individuals who consistently demonstrate leadership, character and integrity.

Richards College of Business Dean Nominated for Two Leadership Awards "It is truly an honor and no surprise that Faye McIntyre, dean of the Richards College of Business, would be a finalist for the Oxford Center Academic Leadership for Entrepreneurs Award and the Turknett Leadership Character Award,” says President of UWG Dr. Kyle Marrero. “Under her leadership. Richards College of Business has become a relevant partner in economic development for the region and developer of entrepreneurial talent."

The Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership and the Atlanta-based Turknett Leadership Group will sponsor the 11th Annual Turknett Leadership Character Awards. Since 2003, the annual Turknett Leadership Character Awards have recognized Georgia leaders who demonstrate character in leadership based on alignment with the Leadership Character Model, a model developed by Bob and Lyn Turknett in 1995. The model represents character as a scale with integrity as the base and respect and responsibility balanced on either side. Nominations were made in six categories: CEO/President/Managing Partner – Large Company, CEO/President/Managing Partner – Small Company, Executive/Manager, Non Profit, Education and “Inspiritor.” Awards for 2014 will be presented by the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership on Sept. 24, 2014 at the Sheraton-Atlanta as a part of the 17th Annual International Greenleaf Conference.

In response to her nomination, Dr. McIntyre says, “The Turknett Leadership Character Award nomination is especially humbling to me. The award is for those who demonstrate integrity through a balance of respect and responsibility – those are high ideals, indeed. The wonderful faculty and staff of the Richards College of Business make my job easy; we all respect one another and take responsibility for our own and each other’s success. This is a recognition I truly cherish.”

The Oxford Center for Entrepreneurs premiere CEO Roundtable Series at the N.Y. Times Center will be held on Sept. 26, 2014 and will feature top CEOs and entrepreneurs engaged in real world discussions and rigorous debate on relevant business agendas. The nominations are made by business industry peers in the following seven categories: Lifetime Legacy Entrepreneur, Fast Growth Entrepreneur, Corporate Leader in Entrepreneur Partnerships, Entrepreneur Blogger, Doctorpreneur, Academic Leadership for Entrepreneurs and MBA Entrepreneur Student.

“I am honored to have been nominated for the Academic Leadership for Entrepreneurs award. I see this as recognition for the excellent work that the entire Richards College of Business has done to further the innovative spirit and entrepreneurial success of our students,” says Dr. McIntyre. “Our faculty and staff embody our mission every day – we are in the business of transforming lives through education engagement, and experiences!”
