University of West Georgia alumni Jack and Jennifer Wall are celebrating the international success of their children’s game, Honey Bear Blitz. The game, which was developed as a mobile app, was created through a partnership with current UWG student, Samuel Stacey.
Jack and Jennifer graduated with degrees in business marketing and mass communications, while Samuel will graduate in December with a degree in computer science. They wanted to create an app that would be fun and entertaining for children to enjoy. By combining the skills they each acquired in their degree programs, App Creations by J&S was born.
They didn’t want to create just another app, so they spent several weeks coming up with different ideas that they thought users would enjoy. The goal was to create a free, fun and colorful game that was easy to understand, yet still posed a challenge to players.
“One night in our kitchen we started to toss ideas around of ‘kid-friendly’ games that are easy to play yet pose challenges along the way,” shares Jennifer. “I came up with the idea of using honey bears and the color schemes, and Jack and Samuel came up with the logistics and game boards. Together the three of us gave life to what is now a globally played app!”
Honey Bear Blitz is a matching game that requires players to connect gummy bears of the same color to get enough points to move on to the next level. As players gain more points, honey pots at the top of the screen fill up with honey to show their progress.
The team spent about six to eight months developing the game before it launched in March 2014. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded over 2,000 times in countries across the world.
App Creations by J&S continues to update and perfect the game with help from donations by their supporters. They are working to add more levels, characters and challenges to the game, which will increase the popularity of Honey Bear Blitz. “We are excited to see what the future holds! The sky is the limit really,” remarks Jennifer.
The game is available to download for free from the App Store, as well as the Google Play Store.
