UWG Alumni Association Hosts Freshmen Send-Off Parties

by Karley East

The transition from a high school senior to an incoming college freshman can be overwhelming. To help remind students of how exciting this time can be, the UWG Alumni Association will host freshmen send-off parties for the incoming freshmen from Douglas, Cobb and Coweta Counties. The students are recent high school graduates who will be attending UWG in the fall of 2014.

Through food, fun and celebration these students will be welcomed into the UWG pack and shown what it means to be a part of the UWG community. Students will have the opportunity to interact with each other and create friendships that will help this transition in their lives. Alumni will also be there to share their experiences at UWG and offer any helpful tips for the incoming students. The events are open to parents and any alumni members who would like to attend.

The Douglas County send-off will be held August 5 at 7 p.m. in the Douglasville Conference Center. The Cobb County send-off, a collaboration the UWG Alumni Association and the Cobb Alumni Network Council will be held on August 7 at 7 p.m. at Dave & Buster’s. The event for the students from Coweta County will be held at the Coweta County Fairgrounds Conference Center on August 19 at 7 p.m.

The UWG Alumni Association has been hosting the freshmen send-off events at various locations the past four years. This year will be the first opportunity for Douglas and Cobb Counties to have a send-off, and Coweta County will host its second.

The UWG Alumni Association keeps the university connected to its surrounding communities through programs that connect future and incoming students with UWG. These programs make students feel involved, which allows them the easy decision of making UWG their home away from home.

Information about each event may be found on the UWG Alumni website at www.westga.edu/alumni/index.php.
