Keeping Things Balanced

by Meredith NeSmith Ledbetter '09

Keeping Things BalancedLife is truly one big balancing act. Between work, school, community and if you have children, we are amazing life- jugglers. I have recently added many things to my juggling act as well.

I am the assistant director of Alumni Relations at UWG, and this is a brand new position for me. I came into this new role on July 1 and have been enjoying my new responsibilities. My focus will move towards overall alumni engagement with defined strategies for increased alumni participation. I am so excited to be in this new role and for what the future holds.

I am also active in the community where I serve as the first vice president for the Carrollton Junior Woman’s Club. We are a group of women who focus on community service and volunteering in various capacities to assist those in need in Carroll County. I am a wife and have been married for two years to my best friend, and I am enrolled in the graduate MBA program here at West Georgia, so I’m busy and have to try to balance it all.

The elements in life that need balance tend to be categorized into two categories, internal and external, and most of the time we tend to focus on one more than the other. My advice to anyone who is looking to get their life more in balance is to acknowledge the areas that need attention, set goals to achieve success in those areas, plan your action steps and finally reflect on what you did to accomplish those goals. We all could benefit from these steps, and I wish you all the best in keeping things in balance.
