Contribution Creates Professorship for Predictive Analytics and Econometrics

UWG Freshman Receives Holland ScholarshipA recent contribution by University of West Georgia alumnus, David Johnson, will create the David A. Johnson Distinguished Scholar, establishing an endowed faculty position to direct the Predictive Analytics/Econometrics program in the Richards College of Business. The endowment will provide supplemental funding to an economics professor to lead the program to new heights.

This donation follows David’s 2011 gift, which endowed the David A. Johnson Applied Econometrics and Analytics Fund at UWG and provided the financial resources to begin offering courses in econometrics and business analytics using SAS statistical software at the Richards College of Business. UWG Announces Creation of Allen Nance Trailblazer Scholarship Fund

UWG Raised a Record $6.7 million in 2013
The University of West Georgia is proud to announce the establishment of the Allen Nance Trailblazer Scholarship Fund. Allen Nance, a 1998 graduate of UWG, has generously provided this gift to establish a scholarship supporting first generation college students at UWG who are majoring in computer science.

Allen, who received a B.S. in Political Science, is the president, CEO and founder of WhatCounts, an international Atlanta-based company offering data management, software, and services to marketing professionals seeking to deliver smart, personalized, digital messages to their target audiences. Allen is the first person in his family to attend college and has dedicated his time to providing this opportunity to other first generation college students. Read more ...

In 2013, the University of West Georgia raised a record amount - $6.7 million – through the generous support of alumni, faculty, staff, private foundations, the business community and friends of the university. UWG receives this record-breaking amount as it looks toward a comprehensive campaign, the first in its history.

Holland Scholarship Provides Opportunity for Five Students

Holland Scholarship Provides Opportunity for Five StudentsFive Paulding County residents attending the University of West Georgia have been awarded the Hubert G. and Naomi C. Holland Scholastic Endowment. The scholarship will cover all educational expenses for freshmen Matthew Bishop, Taylor Hainley, Katelin Kahn, Hannah Liming and Omolola Odeyemi. Provided their GPA remains above a 2.5, the scholarship will cover them for four years.

“The Holland Scholarship has allowed me many different opportunities,” says Hannah Liming, a criminology major from Dallas, Georgia. Read more ...


College of Education $50,000 Donation Creates Education Speaker Series

College of Education $50,000 Donation Creates Education Speaker Series Dr. John K. Folger and his wife Mary Folger generously contributed $50,000 to the University of West Georgia College of Education in memory of Dr. Folger’s father, Dag Folger, the first dean of the College of Education at UWG. The Folgers’ endowment will create the Dag Folger “Critical Topics in Education” Speaker Series, offering multiple opportunities to bring innovative speakers to UWG’s campus.

Dag Folger came to UWG, then West Georgia College, in 1940 as the first dean of instruction to start a third year rural teacher training program. Read more ...
