The University of West Georgia celebrated its 2014 A Day recently, closing out the day with the annual Victory Celebration on the front lawn of the Alumni House. A grand total of $456,724 has been raised since July 1, 2014.

“We’re very happy with the results of this year’s A Day campaign,” said Dr. Kyle Marrero, university president. “We are well on our way to meeting our annual fund goals. The financial assistance of our community partners has been and will continue to be a critical part of student success at UWG.”

Co-chairs for the campaign this year were Artagus Newell ’97 and April Harris ’04.

“It has been my great honor to serve as co-chair along with my great friend, April Harris,” Artagus said. “There are so many young people who will begin making their mark on the world, starting right here at UWG.”

April echoed those sentiments.

“A Day is such a wonderful collaborative event between the university and our community,” she said. “As a local business owner, I understand the value of educating our future workforce. Working together to raise money for the annual fund is a lasting investment.”

Contributing to the grand total was an impressive faculty/staff drive, which saw a 54% participation rate with $149,579 raised. Additionally, community campaigns, including Villa Rica, Bowdon, Carroll County, and Carrollton businesses, raised another $292,128.
