“We hope our scholarship will help young people realize their dreams of becoming teachers and will inspire them to make a positive difference in this world,” says Jill.

Jill worked in Douglas County schools for 36 years in physical education. She was also a cooperating teacher for the physical education department at UWG for 20 years where she trained and mentored student teachers. In 2002, she received the “Exemplary Mentor/Supervising Teacher Award” from UWG.

“My reason for choosing UWG for the endowment is threefold,” Jill explains. “I received two post graduate degrees from UWG, the teacher education program is outstanding and many graduates of the Douglas County School System choose UWG.”

The endowment will continue throughout the entire existence of the College of Education at UWG. Each year, the endowment will fund a scholarship for one high school senior in Douglas County who desires to become an educator.

“The endowment established by Ms. Bryson will make it possible for aspiring educators to complete degree programs leading to their chosen professions,” says Dr. Debra Cobia, associate dean for assessment and research in the College of Education. “Her generosity also conveys to students a lifelong commitment to education and models the importance of investing in others who share one's values.”
