A Day Changes Lives, by Nichole Dyer Fannin '05 '10

A Day Changes Lives, by Nichole Dyer Fannin '05 '10UWG changed my life’s trajectory, placing me on a path to personal and career success. As a first-generation college student from a rural community, the caring and inspiring UWG family saw in me what I did not see in myself and helped me to find doors where I once saw walls.

The A Day Campaign is an essential tool used to generate support and funding for scholarships and programming that make a difference in the lives of students today, tomorrow and forever. I know, because I was one of those students.

The A Day Campaign began in 1983 on our campus and in the West Georgia community; encouraging our alumni, faculty, staff and community to invest and believe in the mission, vision and potential of West Georgia. The 2013 Faculty/Staff A Day Campaign set a new standard of participation and investment for our faculty, staff and alumni. With an alumni lead campaign we broke all previous A Day records -- highest participation rate (68%), highest number of 100% departments (55+) and highest amount raised ($150,133.54).

The A Day message is one of participation. It is not how much you give to the campaign but your participation in the campaign. No gift is too small when it comes to transforming the lives of students. My hope is that the generosity and enthusiasm among our faculty and staff will be contagious and will passionately spread through our alumni population of 50,000+, increasing the overall alumni giving rate, which is currently at 4%. Alumni, be engaged and make a difference.
