Honors Council Banquet Celebrates Graduating Students The University of West Georgia Honors College held its 2014 Honors Council Banquet on Thursday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. During the program, 49 graduating honors students were recognized for their scholastic achievements throughout their college careers.

During the banquet, Stacey Rowland, manager of undergraduate research provided highlights about UWG’s undergraduate research program. Undergraduate research was designed to facilitate collaboration between faculty mentors and student researchers, coordinate university-wide research events such as Research Day and Big Night, assist students in their preparation and travel to research conferences, and encourage new initiatives to create, enhance and expand undergraduate research opportunities for all West Georgia students.

UWG Honors College Dean Dr. Michael Hester concluded the banquet sharing Honors College graduation criteria and motivating closing remarks.

UWG’s Student Honors Council helps plan and participates in the annual Honors Convocation in addition to publishing a newsletter. The Honors College at the University of West Georgia is designed for highly motivated students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement and express a desire to continue on that path. Honors students become immersed in a learning community where they are expected to be actively engaged in an on-going, interactive learning process with like-minded faculty and peers, both in and out of the classroom.
