Student Racks Up More Funds for Business Venture at National CompetitionOnce again, William Cross is making a name for himself in the business world after bringing home another prize from a national business plan competition. This time, William earned third place out of 170 teams and a total of $40,000 in prize money from Baylor University’s New Venture Competition.

The fourth annual Baylor New Venture Competition was a two-day, dual round business plan competition and speed pitch competition promoting entrepreneurship and small business development. At such events, students are sponsored by their home universities and present a business plan for their product to a panel of judges. The competitions provide students with feedback on their products and business plans as well as the opportunity to network and win prizes to help fund their ventures. Read more...

UWG’s MBA, Georgia WebMBA Ranked Top in the World by CEO MagazineCEO Magazine has ranked the University of West Georgia’s MBA program as a Tier 1 program in their 2016 Global Online MBA Rankings. The online magazine also ranked the Georgia WebMBA program, which is offered at UWG, 12th in the world and fifth in the nation.

The 2016 rankings were tallied measuring the learning environment, class sizes, tuition fees, faculty, delivery methods, international diversity, gender make-up, and other factors of more than 100 business schools across North America, Europe, and Australia. According to CEO Magazine, the objective of the rankings is to highlight schools that merge a quality education with great return on investment. Read more ...

Richards College of Business Hosts BB&T Lecture Featuring Stu ThornFormer President and CEO of Southwire Stu Thorn spoke to a full house on February 8 on “How to Change the World Without Changing a Thing: Leveraging Capitalism to Create Shared Value,” as the most recent guest speaker in the BB&T Lectures in Free Enterprise Series held at the University of West Georgia’s Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. The focus of his talk was capitalism and how it has improved the world we live in today by incorporating the idea of shared value. In many ways, Stu has implemented this idea into the local community through Southwire Company with exponential success.

“Capitalism has been out there for centuries and even millennia, and it is working amazingly well,” Stu said. “It is a very simple idea that has a hugely powerful effect.” Read more...


UWG’s Charles Hodges Receives Statewide Honor

UWG’s Charles Hodges Receives Statewide HonorDr. Charles W. Hodges has been honored by the North Georgia District of Sertoma (Service To Mankind) International as the Sertoman of the Year for 2015. The honor is awarded annually and recipients must have been selected by their local club as its Sertoman of the Year to qualify.

Dr. Hodges became a member of the Carroll County Sertoma Club in 2002 and quickly became involved by serving as a director and later as sergeant of arms before being elected president of the club in 2005. After his term as Chairman of the Board, Dr. Hodges agreed to serve indefinitely as sergeant of arms at the request of his peers due to his approach and humor. Read more ...


UWG’s Online MBA Program Ranked Among Top in Nation

U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Program ranked the University of West Georgia’s Richards College of Business online MBA program 55th in the nation for 2016.

The list, published January 12, evaluated more than 12,000 online programs offered by nonprofit and for-profit institutions in the United States in categories of bachelor’s degrees and graduate-level programs in business, Master of Business Administration, education, engineering, nursing, criminal justice, and computer information technology, and the top 145 are ranked in each category. Home for the Holidays

Home for the Holidays“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”

Some may consider these words of wisdom, but University of West Georgia student Ethan Brown considers them words to live by. As a result, he has just planted his feet on American soil after a year-long stint completing a study abroad course that will give him a dual degree in international business. Oh, and by the way, he’s also more than half way through getting his bachelor’s and master’s degrees simultaneously through the Richards College of Business’ Southwire Sustainable Business Honors (SSBH) Program.
