UWG Students Win First Place in National Rockonomix Video ContestFor the second time in a row, economics students from the University of West Georgia have won first place in the Rockonomix National Contest. Viewers were asked to vote for their favorite video.

Rockonomix is a music video contest between universities across the country including UWG, University of Arizona, Northern Kentucky University, University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, University of Tennessee-Martin, Florida Atlantic University and California Polytechnic State University. Kim Holder, economics lecturer in the Richards College of Business, started the contest in 2010 in an effort to stimulate interest by integrating pop culture, technology, and media with course content. Richards College of Business Hosts “Cans for a Cause”

Richards College of Business Hosts “Cans for a Cause”On November 18, 2014, the Richards College of Business hosted an internal competition in which the various clubs from the college battled to see which one would donate the most cans.

Richards College of Business Hosts “Cans for a Cause” Coordinated by Savanna Hash, a graduate assistant in the Richards College of Business, the competition took place in Adamson Hall and resulted in a grand total of 2,722 cans being donated to the Carroll County Soup Kitchen between the Marketing Club, Accounting Club, Economics Club, and the Management Club. The Marketing Club donated 1,381 cans and won the first place prize of $200. The Economics Club was second with 870 cans and won $100. The Management Club took third place with 422 cans and won $50. UWG’s Economic Forecast Breakfast Offers 2015 PredictionsThe University of West Georgia's Richards College of Business, department of Economics, and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce hosted an annual economic forecast breakfast event with approximately 400 local and regional business professionals and the local public in attendance. Three featured economic experts highlighted trends and spoke to issues affecting the economy and the emerging business climate for the local, state, and national regions. The message was one of positivity.

Associate professor of economics, Dr. William "Joey" Smith, provided an informative update on the regional economy including Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, Paulding, and Polk counties. Read more ...

UWG’s Richards College of Business Hosts BB&T Lecture Series Featuring John MooreRichards College of Business recently hosted the Women Empowering Women panel discussion at the Burson Center in Carrollton. The theme this year was Connect. Inspire. Lead. Approximately 135 women attended the event, which was sponsored by Walmart.

UWG’s Richards College of Business Hosts BB&T Lecture Series Featuring John MooreBranding expert and marketing mastermind John Moore spoke to a full house of students and guests as he recently keynoted the Richards College of Business BB&T lecture series, held Tuesday, September 30, at the University of West Georgia’s Townsend Center for the Performing Arts.

Known for thinking outside of the box and helping transform the way businesses look at marketing and branding, John has managed branding teams for multiple internationally successful companies. John is the former director of national marketing for Whole Foods, as well as the strategy conductor at Brains on Fire and served as the long-term marketing manager at Starbucks where he helped grow the company’s brand into a household name. UWG Students to Compete at 22nd International Economics Convention

UWG Students to Compete at 22nd International Economics ConventionThe Richards College of Business students are ready to embark on another trip to India for the 22nd International Economics Convention in Mumbai. This marks the fourth year that a team from the University of West Georgia has made the trip. Teammates Cliff Cowart, Sandra Santiago, Khanor Runzi, and Courtney Thomas will attempt to equal last year’s outstanding performance in which the Richards College of Business team took first place in all six team categories. Dr. John Upson will again serve as faculty sponsor.

One of the team’s members, Khanor Runzi, said, “ I can’t wait to match wits internationally against other talented business students. Our team is motivated, cohesive and going for gold!” Read more ...

Richards College of Business Dean Nominated for Two Leadership AwardsThe University of West Georgia is proud to announce that Dean of the Richards College of Business and Sewell Chair of Private Enterprise Dr. Faye McIntyre is among the finalists for both the Turknett Leadership Character Award and the Oxford Center Academic Leadership for Entrepreneurs Award. Both awards seek to recognize individuals who consistently demonstrate leadership, character and integrity.

University of West Georgia and West Georgia Technical College Sign Transfer Articulation AgreementThe University of West Georgia and West Georgia Technical College signed a new articulation agreement that allows both institutions to provide educational opportunities for currently enrolled and potential students. The agreement was signed by Dr. Kyle Marrero, UWG president; Mr. Steve G. Daniel, WGTC president; Mr. Pat Hannon, WGTC vice president for Academic Affairs; and Dr. J. Micheal Crafton, UWG provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

“At UWG, one of our top priorities is forming mutually beneficial strategic partnerships that provide students with new opportunities and expanded access,” says Dr. Marrero. “This articulation agreement represents a true commitment to student success on the part of both institutions, and we're proud to be a part of it.” Read more ...
